What is a Constitutionele Borrel?
A Constitutionele Borrel is a borrel organized by a board to celebrate the start of its term. It is a place where all the invited boards come together to celebrate, but also to get to know each other.
How it works:
Invitations
The hosting board invites other faculty boards, previous boards, and association members.
Arrival and sign-up
Upon arrival, boards sign up with the padel: the person who determines the speaking order. The padel carries a stick (also called a padel) used to get everyone's attention by making noise.
Speeches
When speeches begin, the padel loudly announces whose turn it is. Going early is in your advantage since you can only brass (explained below) or leave after your speech. You can improve your position on the list by bribing the padel with beers or other incentives.
At the end of each speech, the presenting board gives the hosting board a gift and a drink. The gift can be anything, while the drink must respect any alcohol limits and dietary restrictions (e.g., vegan). Once opened, the drink is passed down and consumed by the hosting board in constitutional order.
Brassing
After giving their speech, boards can begin "brassing": attempting to steal items belonging to the hosting board. This includes the guestbook, the padel, gifts, and board members themselves.
When a brassing is successful, the people who steal the object or person take a photo as proof. Within 24 hours, they must write a "brassbrief" (brass letter) to the hosting board, acknowledging the theft and negotiating terms for returning the stolen item or person.
